Star Wars themed charity event set
The second annual Hastings Charity Con has been scheduled for Sept. 23.
Hastings Charity Con is a Star Wars themed family convention. This year's event will be held at the Hastings National Guard Armory. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and close at midnight. Admission is either a free-will offering or one canned food item at the door. These donations will go directly to Hastings Family Service. This year the event will be filled with all sorts of Star Wars related activities. There will be a kids costume contest with prizes. The age groups for the contest are 17 years old and under.
Two door prizes will be given away, and everyone who donates at the door will receive a ticket for the drawing. Prizes include a laptop computer and a flat screen T.V. with a DVD player.
Organizers said that the Vader's 501st will return, too. This national charity group will be appearing in Star Wars costumes and posing for pictures with guests. This year, Darth Maul will be one of the 501st's representatives. Other costumed characters will include Bobba Fett, Han Solo and many more.
The charity auction will be back. Auction features Star Wars items, as well as autographs donated by the actors and artists themselves. Proceeds from the auction will also go to Hastings Family Service. There will be Star Wars video games to play, fan-made videos, and vintage Star Wars commercials.
Vendors include a Star Wars themed food from Benny's Grill and Café, a light saber salesman, face painting and a professional costume maker.
