Star Gazette plans special project in Hastings on Sept. 21
We have a special project planned here at the Star Gazette this week, and I want your help.
On Sept. 21, we are going to cover the city with reporters and photographers. They are going to be hard at work gathering content for a special section we are going to call "A day in the life of Hastings."
Several former staff members of the paper are going to come back and help and many colleagues from our sister papers have also agreed to help out.
Beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 21, we are going to begin gathering content for the piece, and at 11:59 p.m. that night, we will be done. We will then work hard over the next two weeks to assemble all the stories and on Oct. 4, the section will be tucked neatly inside your paper.
We will write about the everyday things that happen in our community. We have ideas ranging from the group of guys who gather to drink coffee at M&H to a wedding, the Friday night football game and, if all goes as planned, a happy little baby born here that day.
I'm working on a long list of ideas for our writers and photographers to work from, and I'm open to your ideas. If your children come home from school that day and play in a big mud puddle, call us up. It would be fun to include them.
Likewise, if you happen to be out and about with your camera that day, we'd love to see what you can capture. We always welcome submissions, but we'd be especially grateful for any images that are taken on Sept. 21.
So who will be helping us out?
Recent readers will recognize three names -- Keith Grauman, Chad Hjellming and Michael Moore will be here.
Keith resigned a few years ago to work for a public relations agency. Chad was the editor here just before I arrived, and he now works for our sister publications in Farmington and Rosemount. Michael, meanwhile, is the editor for a union trade publication.
Going back farther, we'll have people such as John Colwell, Murray Wolf, Al Shaffer, Doug Schultz, Randy Roberts and countless others helping out. It will be a reunion for us, and we are all really looking forward to it.
We think you'll love the piece, and if you have ideas for us to cover, please call me at 651-319-4500 or write me: email@example.com.
