Email

It is set for April 30. It's the Spring Fling. It'll be an Evening in Paradise. It's a Catholic schools thing, but everyone's invited.

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church is hosting the 13th annual Spring Fling. Enjoy dinner, drinks, auctions and lots of fun for a good cause. Much of the money goes to support the SEAS schools, in scholarships for students and grants to the classrooms for curriculum, special event attendance and other items that make the schools a better place for all.

The cost is $40 per person; reserve a spot by calling 437-3098.

As always, the organizers have found some fun things for the auctions. Some of the more unique things this year are a baseball signed by Joe Mauer; handmade dolls; a Murder Mystery party; autographs of Carol Burnett, Richard Harris, Harry Belafonte and Johnny Mercer; a homemade wine basket; projects made by the classes at the school; Twins tickets, a one-year membership to the Como Zoo and more. The complete list is on the school website at http:/schoolweb.seasparish.org.

There is also an item on the live auction called the "Principal's Purse," filled with mysterious goods. SEAS principle Rita Humbert wouldn't say what is in the purse (and more is added all evening) but she did drop a few clues.

"Each year the contents of the purse remain a mystery but everyone knows it's very, very valuable and usually has a value that exceeds $3,000," Humbert said. "Last year, it contained a diamond necklace - the theme was "Denim and Diamonds."

"I don't know what's in it this year, nor would I tell if I did," she said. "But I do know that as I walk around to folks the evening of Spring Fling ... they put in bills ... lots of bills.

"The theme is 'Evening in Paradise' ... hummm, what would that look like in a purse?"

Wear a tropical shirt, a sundress or lei and celebrate the tropical way.

The event is being held at St. Elizabeth Seton Hall Friday, April 30. Social hour begins at 5:30 p.m. Dinner is at 7:30 p.m. At 8 p.m. bidding on the silent auction items ends. The live auction for items, including the Principal's Purse, begins at 8:30 p.m.
