Session for those going through a divorce begins Friday at The Harbor
Hastings Minnesota 745 Spiral Boulevard 55033

The message is a simple one: You don't have to go through it alone.

Divorce and separation can be two of life's most challenging experiences.

The Harbor Church is now offering DivorceCare, a weekly meeting to help people in the community going through divorce or separation. The first meeting is from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8. The meetings will continue on Fridays.

Each DivorceCare session has two parts. During the first 30-40 minutes of the meeting, each DivorceCare group will watch videos featuring top experts on divorce and recovery subjects. The videos are produced in a television magazine format featuring interviews, real-life case studies and on-location video.

The second part of the evening is a support group with a focus. After viewing the video, participants will discuss what was presented and what is going on in their lives. All discussions are confidential.

Divorce Care is a friendly, caring group of people who will help others going through difficult experiences. The groups are led by people who understand what participants are going through and want to help.

Participants will gain access to valuable resources to help them deal with they are experiencing and looking ahead to rebuilding their lives.

The Church Initiative was founded in 1993 by Steve and Cheryl Grissom. He now serves as the president of Church Initiative. Cheryl serves as the ministry vice president.

After experiencing the pain of divorce, Grissom's church played a key role in helping him heal. Once he was ready to resume active service in his local church, he wanted to make sure churches around the world would be prepared to help others going through divorce.

In 1993, Steve and his wife Cheryl designed and developed DivorceCare, a Christ-centered, video-based support group program.

In 1996, the ministry underwent a name change to Church Initiative, with a vision to create biblical, Christ-centered resources that mobilize lay people to help hurting people, within the context of the local church. The DivorceCare program was joined by DivorceCare for Kids, GriefShare and other dynamic ministry tools created by Church Initiative to minister to people in a life crisis. More than 13,000 churches are equipped with one or more Church Initiative ministry programs

The Harbor Church meetings are open to the community. For more information, call 493-7974.
