Senior night a real highlight for girls soccer team.

Thursday night against Park, the Hastings girls soccer team celebrated senior night. Seven HHS seniors were honored and each had the opportunity to pass along some advice to their fellow teammates. Each had an opportunity to go to KDWA radio and record a segment with sports director Nick Tuckner.

The segments were then played over the loudspeaker at McNamara Stadium at Todd Field before the game against Park. One player's goal was to meet and marry an NHL player and to also be a broadcaster on ESPN.

"It was the coolest thing," coach Joanne Teigland said.

Seniors this year are Torri Holm, Jenna Sorenson, Jackie Sorenson, Sara Peterson, Leslie Lucking, Jenna Marier and Mackenzie Robinson.

Seeing this group reach their final year in her program is something that makes Teigland sad.

"I love them all," she said. "They are such an amazing group of seniors. They have so much energy and they get along with everybody. They include everyone. They laugh and they work hard.

"To lose seven of them, it's going to make a big difference, not only on the field, but off the field. It's their personalities. They're amazing."

On Friday, for practice, the team traveled to a fitness center to do a kettle ball class and a hip-hop class as a way to break up the routine.

"They had a blast," Teigland said. "They were dancing and laughing and hooting and hollering. The owner was like, 'I love this group.'

"There's all this energy and laughing and fun. That's what your season is about - it's those memories. Those girls value those memories more than their record."

Hastings ended up losing the game to Park, 1-0.

Hastings lost to East Ridge last Tuesday, 2-0.
