Email

Believe it or not, the Section 1AAA baseball playoffs are here.

As of press time Wednesday morning, it still wasn’t clear who Hastings would play, or where they would play. All that was known was that the Raiders would be playing at 5 p.m. today (Thursday).

The section tournament continues Saturday, May 24, and Monday, May 26. The final four compete in Red Wing on May 31 and June 3.

Hastings has a 5-13 overall record.

Recent action

Hastings beat White Bear Lake on Wednesday, May 14, 4-3.

Hastings scored four runs in the third inning to get all the offense they need for starting pitcher Thomas Roob. Roob had a “great” game, according to coach Taylor Pagel.

“We played the field well and pitched very well,” Pagel said. “It was another great team win.”

Hastings scattered a number of hits. Mikey Junker was 2-3 with two doubles and an RBI, Sam Skoyen was 1-3 with an RBI, Austin LaDoux 1-3 with a double and 2 RBIs.  Isaiah Gardell , Mitch Donahoe, Cody Marek and Joey Werner each had a hit. Marek’s was a double.

Hastings played against Stillwater on Friday and lost, 10-1.

“The score doesn’t provide the story of the game,” Pagel said. “It was a 2-1 ball game going into the sixth inning.  Stillwater strung together a few bloop hits and a few ground balls that were deep in the holes. Once they scored a few we couldn’t stop them.  We played very well and actually pitched very well, which doesn’t show on the scoreboard.”

Isaiah Gardell was the starting pitcher. He threw three innings and ended up with the loss. Mitch Donahoe came in and pitched two innings. Joey Werner threw the last inning.

Mikey Junker and Jake Dale each had two hits on the day.  Sam Skoyen also had a hit.
