Second Street to close temporarily under bridge June 1
Motorists traveling Second Street near downtown Hastings will encounter a short detour as the road is closed to through traffic between Eddy Street and Sibley Street at 4 a.m. Friday, June 1.
All lanes will reopen by 6 p.m., and parking will remain available on Second Street immediately east of the bridge (from the east access ramp to Sibley Street) for those visiting businesses in the area. Drivers can access downtown Hastings at Third or Fourth streets.
The closure is needed as crews pour concrete for the new Highway 61 bridge's south abutment and southbound lanes spanning Second Street.
Motorists traveling in the area may also notice a higher volume of truck traffic May 30 through June 6 as crews continue concrete pours for other sections of the approach.
As is expected for the entire project, two-way traffic will remain across the river during rush hours, and access to local businesses and residences will not be affected.
Travelers and residents with questions are encouraged to call the Hastings Bridge Project Hotline at 651-775-5244 or visit the project's web site at www.dot.state.mn.us/hastingsbridge.
