Samantha Kent advances to state competition in September
Samantha Kent is the winner of this year’s Hastings Sings.
A crowd of almost 300 watched the final competition held Sunday afternoon at the end of Rivertown Days in Jaycee Park. In addition to the finalists, last year’s adult division winner Scott Stoneking performed a song from “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” called “Close Every Door” just prior to the announcement of the winner.
Kent will represent the city at the state-wide vocal competition Minnesota Sings in September.Experience Shows, owned and managed by Kelly Casey Spavin, handled this year’s Hastings Sings (as in previous years).Each of the 50 cities in Minnesota will be hosting one singer to represent their city or town in a finals events that will be held Sept. 28 in St. Paul. Since March, Experience Shows has been involved in all the details from notifying cities to creating the network of resources needed to host this large show.RBC Wealth Management will provide the $5,000 in prize money for Minnesota Sings, including $2,500 awarded to the winners, $1000 to the second place finishers, and $500 to the third place winner. The top singer in the state will be bringing back a $500 donation to local charity, that will be presented on behalf of the winner.Hastings Sings awarded a trophy and a $50 gift card (for transportation expenses to the state finals) to Kent.“We have really enjoyed providing a professionally-produced opportunity for local singers to showcase their musical talents and wish all the Hastings singers the best as they vie to represent their community at the next level,” said Casey Spavin.
