Ronald C. Eggert, 76

Ronald C. Eggert, age 76, of Hastings, died suddenly on June 17 in the presence of his wife at his cabin on Lake Vermilion.

Ron was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed sports and the outdoors, golf, tennis, cross-country skiing, and in his younger days, softball, volleyball, and trips to the Boundary Waters. He was an avid fisherman and loved to travel with his wife, Rosalie, making trips throughout Europe, China, and Thailand, and visiting family and friends throughout the United States.

He grew up in Mason City, Iowa, and earned degrees from Carthage College in Illinois and Iowa State University. He worked as a chemist at 3M, a teacher in Highland Park Senior High, and as self-employed contractor in Hastings. Ron loved learning about history and listening to classical music. He sang in his church choir, played hand bells, and attended church faithfully. His relationships with family and friends were important to him. His gentle presence and quiet wisdom will be greatly missed.

Ron is survived by his wife, Rosalie; brother Delmer; daughters Rebecca Thoen and Roxanne Cornell; grandchildren Eva, Anders, Jakob, Christian, Lauren, and Julia.

The memorial service was held June 22 at Augustana Lutheran Church in West St. Paul. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorials to be sent to Children's Cancer Research and the American Heart Association.
