"It will be a good parade," said Hastings Area Chamber of Commerce president Michelle Jacobs. About 100 units are in the parade.

The parade route is about 1 and one-half mile long and is from 10th and Tyler streets to Second Street, and then west on Second Street to Eddy Street. The units will disband at Wilson Park.

"We don't have a grand marshal as such," she said. "But we do have a number of honored guests that we have invited to participate."

They include former Hastings Police Chief Mike McMenomy and former Hastings Housing and Redevelopment Authority (HRA) director John Grossman. Both retired from the city earlier this year after many years of service. The Chamber's annual award winners will also ride in the parade.

As in years past, the Hastings High School Marching Band will participate. The Hastings Fire Department and Police Department vehicles will lead the parade along with the Hastings Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Honor Guard. Also scheduled to appear are the Mighty Mites (a motorcycle corps,) the Shriners, clowns, organizations and businesses.

Jacobs said many attempts were made to have more bands, but due to schedules and vacations, that was not possible. "But we do have lots of music as part of some of our entries," she said.

The Chamber has encouraged the units to "move along" in the parade as there have been comments received about gaps in the parade.

People attending the parade are asked to be respectful of other people's property.
