River Valley Band kicks off Sunday concert series at LeDuc estate
A community band was formed two years ago in the Hastings and it continues to perform at concerts.
The group - River Valley Band - kicks off the 2012 summer outdoor concert series at 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 5, at the LeDuc Historic Estate, 1629 Vermillion St.
The River Valley Band was founded in November 2010 by Karen Banaszewski, Deb Saunders and Dee Larson. The band was initially conducted by Bob Casperson (retired Hastings High School band director). Pat Dymacek served as the first director and Jim Jacobsen took over the baton in June of 2011.
The band has quickly grown to almost 50 members and has presented several concerts for communities including Hastings, Edina and Prescott. Members come from all walks of life and enjoy playing and performing music as an ensemble. They welcome new players to join them at their weekly Tuesday rehearsal from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. More information about the River Valley Band can be found on their Facebook page.
Other performing groups at the concerts are: Aug. 12, Doo Da Day, popular show tunes; Aug. 19, The Eric Thomas Trio, mostly jazz selections; and Aug. 26, The Jolly Huntsmen, a polka band
All concerts begin at 7 p.m. and guests are invited to arrive early to walk the grounds, enjoy the beautiful gardens on the historic site, or take a special guided house tour at 5:30 p.m. (regular rates apply to house tours).
Bring a chair or a blanket and spend a relaxing and enjoyable evening with the LeDuc house as a backdrop for listening to musicians. Pie and ice cream will be sold by various local organizations.
