Rio Gran plans grand opening for new building on Saturday
This Saturday, Rio Gran Enterprises invites the public to see its new location, Rio Gran Grooming School and Salon. A grand opening celebration will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Dec. 14.
The new location, located north of Hastings at 12260 Margo Ave., is the new home to Rio Gran’s grooming school and grooming business. The business’s boarding and training facilities remain at the country location, along Fischer Avenue, west of Hastings.
Rio Gran bought the vacant building, which was formerly occupied by CrashedToys. com, last spring. Over the summer and fall, the Beskau family has been working with Egan Builders to remodel the site, converting it into a two-story, split level facility with all the glitz and glam of an upscale salon.
Owner Karen Beskau designed the interior décor with the help of Pat Leaf, a Hastings interior designer.
The place is full of light, with large windows providing natural light and mirrors and crystals to make the place sparkle.
“We wanted it to look like a high end salon for a person, but it’s for dogs,” Beskau said.
Rio Gran opened the new facility Nov. 2, and has been serving its customers there since then. So far, people have been impressed.
“The response from the community has been outstanding,” Beskau said.
The facility features an open floor plan.
“You can see a lot more, you can hear when customers come in,” she said. “The design is just beautiful.”
Moving into the new facility has expanded the grooming school and salon considerably. Where the two aspects of Rio Gran were working in 1,400 square feet previously, this new site has about 7,000 square feet.
“It has allowed the students to get more out of their education here,” Beskau said.
Students are now able to get experience with the business side of things, as they’ll be helping out at the front desk. There’s also space for computer stations for students to use.
The site features a mix of student, pet and customer areas, including more spacious interior and outdoor spaces.
Rio Gran has been in business since 1999, and in that time it’s gained more than 4,000 clients from all across the area. The new location means a shorter drive for some, but for others coming from the Rosemount, Apple Valley and Eagan area, it’s a much longer distance. To make sure that existing and new customers to the west can still enjoy the same convenience they’re used to, Rio Gran has set up a shuttle.
Clients who don’t want to drive their dogs all the way to the new salon can still drop them off at the Fischer Avenue site, and Rio Gran staff will shuttle them to the salon and back.
“People really do want to take advantage of that convenience,” Beskau said.
The grand opening event this Saturday will feature all sorts of family fun for visitors. Santa Claus will be there for photos, there will be cake, door prizes, arts and crafts activities for kids, grooming demonstrations and tours of the facility.
Employee dogs will be there for a meet-and-greet, but visitors are asked to leave their own four-legged friends at home for this event. Rio Gran is planning another celebration at which visitor’s dogs will be invited.
