Raiders vying for state ski meet berths

The regular season has come and gone for the Hastings Alpine ski teams. The postseason began Wednesday at Wild Mountain with the section tournament.

Should any Hastings skiers qualify for the state meet, they'd race Wednesday, Feb. 13, at Giant's Ridge in Biwabik.

Wrapping up

Hastings competed at the final SEC meet of the year on Jan. 31 at Afton Alps.

The Hastings girls placed fourth with 600 points.

The meet was won by Stillwater with 859 points. East Ridge (824 points) was second and Mounds View was third (679).

The girls were led by Gabriella Sorg, who placed sixth with a combined time of 1:11.41. She had a time of 35.98 on the first run and 35.43 on the second.

The winner was Elizabeth Koprucki from East Ridge. She had a combined time of 1:06.02.

Also racing for Hastings were:

Rosie Pechous, who placed eighth in 1:13.23;

Ellie Peine, who placed 26th in 1:19.31;

Sarah Kieffer, who placed 34th in 1:22.39;

Sara Juelfs, who placed 40th in 1:24.08;

Ursula Rumann, who placed 46th in 1:26.80;

Katie Roach, who placed 48th in 1:29.51;

Kayla Boogren, who placed 51st in 1:32.15.

Boys

The Hastings boys placed fifth with 560 points.

Stillwater won the meet. East Ridge was second, Forest Lake was third and Mounds View was fourth.

Stephen O'Connor led Hastings with a seventh-place finish. He had a time of 31.31 on the first run and 31.61 on the second. He had a combined time of 1:02.92.

Steig Peterson of Stillwater won the boys race with a time of 1:00.38.

Also racing for Hastings were:

Adam Peine, who placed 16th in 1:05.43;

Joe Wright, who placed 33rd in 1:11.83;

Thomas Goonan, who placed 40th in 1:13.58;

Sam McKinney, who placed 42nd, 1:13.89;

Jake Gartzke, who placed 49th in 1:16.22;

Will Caturia, who placed 50th in 1:16.59;

John Schmitz, who placed 57th in 1:20.31;

Nate Strauss, who placed 76th in 1:33.77;

Chris Erickson, who placed 80th in 1:38.75.
