Raiders take third at SEC golf meet

What a Tuesday it was for the Hastings boys golf team. The Raiders placed third at a Suburban East Conference meet at the Yacht Club in White Bear Lake with a score of 308.

Forest Lake had a 306 and Mounds View had a 306. Hastings is now in second place in the SEC race.

"The boys are off to an exciting start of the season," coach Pete McGinnis said.

The Raiders were led by freshman Matthew Radke, who was the medalist with a 73. He had six birdies on the day.

"Some of the quickest greens that we have played, with lots of undulation, made (his score) even more impressive," McGinnis said.

Jacob Cooper had a 77, including a 37 on his first nine holes.

"Just a few bad holes cost him (a chance) to go really low today," McGinnis said.

Cole Carrigan had a 78 and Nick Tusa had an 80 to round out the scoring.

At Bunker Hills

Hastings played in a 28-team tournament at Bunker Hills on Thursday and placed ninth.

Radke led the way over 27 holes with a 10-over par 118. He placed eighth out of 168 golfers.

"Despite making four double bogeys, he was able to make three birdies, 15 pars and five bogeys," McGinnis said. "To play 27 holes for seven hours and play that consistent is outstanding! Matthew also hit 13 fairways with 15 greens. He led the team in putting with 46 putts on some very large greens. He is putting with a lot of confidence and reads the greens so well."

Cooper had great round of 123 and 15 over par.

"His ability to hit the ball long off the tee is providing him with great opportunities to score low," McGinnis said. "I like how smart he is off the tee with his club selection."

Cooper led the team, hitting 16 greens.

Sam Otto made three birdies to shoot 43, 37, 41 for a total of 121. Nick Tusa finished with 124 with only 46 putts. Mike Dittrich shot 135 and Cole Carrigan shot 131.
