Raiders placed third at section true team track meet

The Hastings track and field teams competed last week at the Section 2AAA true team meet, and the Raiders boys came home with a strong third-place finish out of eight teams.

Wes Evansen won the pole vault for the Raiders.

The team also got big wins from the 4x400 relay team, Clayton Johnson in the 300 hurdles and Zack Benning in the 1,600 to pave the way for the win.

The meet was held at St. Thomas Academy. The boys meet was won by Stillwater with 860 points. Woodbury was second (727), followed by Hastings (649).

Results from the boys meet went like this:

4x800 relay – Hastings, third, 8:38.03.

110 hurdles – Clayton Johnson, fourth, 15.54; Austin Getting, 11th, 18.44.

100 – Derek Edwards, 14th, 11.88; Jake Anderson, 18th, 12.30; Carter Maher, 21st, 12.45.

4x200 relay – Hastings, fourth, 1:37.99.

1,600 – Zack Benning, first, 4:31.67; Kyle Gudmunson, 14th, 4:54.81; Christian Flanders, 21st, 5:16.56.

4x100 relay – Hastings, seventh, 47.47.

400 — Nik Chappee, second, 52.70; Mark Vaith, fourth, 53.14.

300 hurdles – Johnson, first, 39.09; Austin Getting, 17th, 46.90.

800 – Bobby Verchota, eighth, 2:06.62; Jake Brown, ninth, 2:07.85; Mason Minnick, 16th, 2:11.50.

200 – Alex Poncelet, fourth, 23.34; Logan Welshons, 12th, 24.55; Treshon Sanders, 13th, 24.58.

3,200 – Benning, second, 9:41.48; Gudmunson, 12th, 10:46.85; Daniel Williams, 18th, 11:13.58.

4x400 relay – Hastings, first, 3:29.53.

Shot put – Kyle King, fifth, 49-9; Tristen Carlson, 15th, 36-9.5; Matt Reinisch, 21st, 35-6.

Discus – Jake Kelly, sixth, 117-3; King, 10th, 104-3; Carlson, 15th, 101-0.

Pole vault – Wes Evansen, first, 13-0; Ethan Kimmes, 11th, 10-0; Jonah Schill, 13th, 10-0.

High jump – Austin Getting, fifth, 5-6; Brandon Sieh, 10th, 5-3; Austen Bayne, 11th, 5-3.

Long jump – Evansen, third, 20-8.5; Poncelet, 15th, 18-3.5; Sieh, 20th, 17-7.

Triple jump – Evansen, third, 41-4.5; Johnson, fourth, 40-6.25; Verchota, 19th, 35-2.

Girls

On the girls side, the meet was won by East Ridge. Stillwater was second, Woodbury was third and Park was fourth. Hastings finished fifth. Henry Sibley and Tartan also competed on the girls side.
