“Our kids had a great week of practice working on our forecheck and it paid off immediately,” coach Jeff Corkish said. “Our defense did the best they have done all year at holding the red line, causing turnovers in the neutral zone, which allowed us to get the puck back in their end quickly.”

Hastings got on the scoreboard at 11:45 on a goal by Kit Ruedy, assisted by Kiki Radke and Erin Moes.

At 14:09, Hastings went up 2-0 with a goal from Sami Claussen, assisted by Natalie Simons.

In the second period, Simons scored at 4:08, assisted by Moes.

The final Hastings goal came at 14:24. Radke scored, assisted by Moes.

Eighth-grader Kaity McKenzie played in goal and earned the shutout win for Hastings.

She stopped 21 shots.

Vs Park

Hastings traveled to Park on Saturday and left with a 1-1 tie.

Hastings had 17 shots on goal in the first period and couldn’t get one through.

“Their goalie was as good as we have seen in a long time, robbing chance after chance and ultimately frustrating our players enough to change their style of play, which was not what we wanted to happen,” Corkish said.

Hastings finished with 38 shots on goal. Park had 28 shots on goal.

“It was a good example of learning how we have to make sure to stick with the plan for 51 minutes so that we can allow the process to take its course,” Corkish said.

The Hastings goal was scored by Claussen.

McKenzie played in goal for Hastings and made 27 saves on 28 shots.
