Raiders eliminated by Titans, 22-6
The Hastings football season came to an end Tuesday night, when the Raiders were defeated by the Tartan Titans in the first round of the section tournament.
The game, in many ways, mirrors the team's season. Hastings was hurt bad by a slow start, fueled by missteps and ended up losing a game it could have just as easily won.
Tartan scored on in the first quarter on an 82-yard run. They then added two points on a safety, which came on a snap that went out of the end zone. Tartan then added six more points on another big play, a 48-yard run.
In the second quarter, Hastings gained some ground on the scoreboard, getting a touchdown with 3:34 to play in the half on a three-yard run by Brandon McCarthy.
That was the only time Hastings got on the board though.
Tartan closed out the scoring with another big play, a 70-yard interception return for a touchdown.
The Raiders struggled on the ground. They ended up losing six yards on 15 carries in the game.
Through the air, Alex Wiese completed 17 of 43 attempts for 303 yards. He threw five interceptions on the night.
Catches were made by Drew Pottinger, Ross Dylla, Zach Wiese, John Tate, Daryale Harris and McCarthy.
Hastings lost in the regular season finale to Stillwater, 21-14.
Stillwater got on the board first with a field goal in the first quarter.
Hastings was able to take the lead just before halftime when Alex Wiese scored on a 19-yard touchdown, capping off an eight-play, 96-yard drive.
Stillwater scored the next 14 points, though, to take the lead.
The Ponies scored with 11:56 to play in the fourth quarter on a 31-yard yard field goal, making the score 6-6. They took the lead on a 30-yard interception return for a touchdown, 13-6. The score came with 4:21 to play.
Hastings, though, didn't take long to get back into the game. Alex Wiese hit Ross Dylla on a 63-yard touchdown pass, and Drew Pottinger converted on the extra-point, catching a pass from Wiese. Hastings led 14-13.
Stillwater, though, got the ball and went on a 10-play, 70-yard drive to win the game.
They scored the winning touchdown with just 15 seconds to play on a one-yard run.
