Raiders eke out win over Ponies in boys tennis

The Hastings boys tennis team escaped from Stillwater with a 4-3 win on Monday, improving their overall record to 5-8 and their Suburban East Conference mark to 3-3.

The key to the win was a clean sweep in doubles play.

The No. 1 team of Craig Nielsen and Alex Zuzek won 6-4, 6-1.

The second doubles team of Ben Klimek and Carson Whyle won in three sets, 6-2, 2-6, 7-6.

The third team of Rob Troje and Killian Konrady won 6-3, 6-4.

In singles action, Austin Houska fell at the top spot, 6-3, 7-5.

The No. 2 singles player, Danny Steiner, lost 6-2, 6-2.

The key fourth win of the tournament was picked up at third singles by Steven Roach. He lost the first set, 6-3, but then came back to win the final two, 6-1, 6-3.

Cole Pottinger lost at fourth singles, 6-2, 7-5.

Vs Cretin

Hastings lost to Cretin on May 1, 5-2.

Wins were recorded by Houska and the No. 1 doubles team of Zuzek and Steiner.

Houska won at first singles, 6-0, 6-4.

Zuzek and Steiner won 6-3, 6-2.
