Raiders earn big win over Roseville
Seven different players scored goals and goalie Zach Chilson made 16 saves as the Hastings boys lacrosse team beat Suburban East Conference foe Roseville 8-5 and earned one of the best wins in the program's short history last week.
Hastings (4-6; 2-6 SEC) scored four goals in the first period against Roseville on Wednesday, May 15, to take command of the game early. Hastings added a goal in the second period, held a 5-2 halftime lead and hung on for the three-goal win over the other Raiders (4-8; 2-6 SEC).
Sophomore midfielder R.J. Martineau led the Hastings offense with three points on two goals and an assist. Junior attacker Colin Shoen and senior midfielder Luke Dobbelaere both had a goal and an assist and seniors Sam McGee, Dustin Ohlhauser and Andrew Cordell and sophomore Logan Chilson all each scored one goal. McGee leads the team in scoring on the year with 36 points, followed by Shoen with 25 points.
Senior goalie Zach Chilson came up big between the pipes, stopping 16 of the 21 shots he faced. On the year, Chilson is 4-5 with a .668 save percentage and 8.10 goals-against average.
The win was sandwiched between a pair of conference losses - to Park, 12-11, on Monday, May 13, and 7-1 to Stillwater on Monday, May 20.
Hastings traveled to White Bear Lake to take on the powerhouse Bears (9-1; 8-0 SEC) on Tuesday, May 21, after the Gazette went to press. Next, the Raiders face off with non-conference foes Owatonna - on Wednesday, May 22 - and Lakeville South - on Thursday, May 23, to close out the regular season. Both games are at Hastings High School.
