Raiders almost win Hudson cross country meet
Hastings Minnesota 745 Spiral Boulevard 55033

The Hastings girls cross country team came within two points of winning the annual Hudson Raider Invitational last Tuesday.

Hudson squeaked out a win with 63 points. Hastings had 65.

"It was an excellent performance from the girls," coach John Dewall said.

Hastings didn't have a single senior in its varsity lineup. The team was led by sophomore Michaela Mills, who finished the race in 16 minutes, 46 seconds. Mills finished seventh in the race.

On her heels was Kiki Radke, an eighth-grader, who finished 10th in 16:59.8.

Bri Strandberg, a junior, was 11th in 17:08.1.

Helen Jensen was 16th in 17:38.7. She is an eighth-grader.

Sophomore Kate Curtis was the final scoring runner, earning 21st place in 17:51.1. Her finish was big, since Kailee Harrington was out sick.

"Kate just rocked," Dewall said. "We're really, really excited with her going like that now. Now she knows she can be right in there. It was really exciting to see Kate finish like that."

Abberly Smith, a seventh-grader, placed 35th in 18:52.4 and Makaila England, a sophomore, took 43rd in 19:45.9.

There were eight teams in the meet.

The boys ran in the meet, too, and placed in the middle of the pack.

"It was a real, real good team-building meet," Dewall said. "This meet really showed that we are starting to jel as a team. The kids are starting to see some success from all their hard work. We're going to step it up and continue to improve every day, and every meet."
