Raider volleyball team beats Wingers in three
The Hastings volleyball team took a nice break from Suburban East Conference play on Monday with a three-set win over Red Wing.
Hastings won, 25-10, 25-17, 25-14.
Red Wing took a 3-1 lead in the first set, eventually holding a 6-3 lead after a serve-receive error by Hastings. But the Raiders recovered, tying the match at six. Hastings' momentum continued for the rest of the set as the Raiders won 19 of the next 23 points to take the first set in convincing fashion.
Hastings went up 3-0 in the second set, and never trailed on the way to a 25-17 second-set victory and a 2-0 advantage in the match.
Red Wing and Hastings were tied at four in the third set before the Raiders took control with a 10-5 lead. The Wingers cut the deficit to 12-10 following a hitting error by Hastings before the Raiders scored 10 of the next 11 points to secure the sweep.
Hastings lost to Cretin-Derham Hall on Tuesday night, 25-13, 25-22 and 25-19.
On Thursday, the Raiders lost to Mounds View in three sets, 26-24, 25-22 and 25-21.
Just two weeks remain in the regular season, with conference matches remaining against East Ridge, Forest Lake, Park and White Bear Lake.
This weekend, Hastings will travel to St. Michael-Albertville for an invitational, set for Friday and Saturday.
The first round of the section tournament is Oct. 24.
