Radke places 31st at Tri-State meet, HHS girls took fifth at SEC meet
Hastings golfer Matthew Radke placed 31st out of 116 golfers at the two-day Tri-State meet at Edinburgh last week.
The 36-hole tournament was an invite-only meet, meaning he ended up competing against the best golfers in the state.
Radke shot an 83 on the first day and a 76 on the second day for a total of 159.
Things were going pretty well on the first day, but he ended up going five-over on the last two holes.
On the 12th hole, a par 5, he hit his tee shot out of bounds and his second tee shot went into the water. Radke hit his fifth shot about 255 yards to the front of the green, and then chipped in for a hard-earned bogey.
In the second day of play, Radke was six-over par after 10 holes, but he made an eagle on 12, a birdie on 13 and pars on 14, 15 and 16 to turn things around.
Radke played No. 12, a 515-yard hole, at one-under par in two days with three penalty shots and no putts.
"His course management was outstanding," coach Pete McGinnis said. "He only used his driver once on Saturday, and he was able to get to a distance around 150 yards out, consistently on the fairway, so he was able to have some great iron shots into the greens."
Girls take 5th at conference opener
The Hastings girls golf team finally got a meet in this year. In a rescheduled Suburban East Conference meet at River Oaks on Monday, Hastings placed fifth.
The Raiders had a team score of 194.
Izzy Karbo and Maddie Bauer each had 47s.
Caitlyn Judge had a 49, Sadie Karbo had a 51, Haley Jo Kimmen had a 51 and Clare Baldwin shot a 52.
