Hastings golfer Matt Radke competed against nearly 70 other golfers in the Valleywood Junior PGA Championship qualifier last Thursday in Apple Valley.
Radke shot 78 on the par 71 course, which earned him third place and a spot at the Minnesota Section Junior PGA Championship July 12 and July 13. The top four golfers advanced to the section championship. Radke will be an eighth-grader this fall.
The section championship - a two-day, 36-hole event - will be held at Giant's Ridge Golf Course in Biwabik, Minn. The top player will represent the state at the National Junior PGA Junior Championship Aug. 5 in Fort Wayne, Ind.
Also playing at the Valleywood qualifier were Hastings High School freshman Jake Cooper and recent graduate Max Fox. Cooper competed with Radke in the ages 13 to 15 bracket. He shot 87. Fox played in the ages 16-18 bracket and shot 79.
