Preview: HHS boys track team returns only eight seniors
A youthful Hastings boys track team will be leaning heavily on its underclassmen to score points this season. Hastings hast just eight seniors on the roster this spring.
The good news is that the program's numbers keep inching upward.
Team members are listed here by the grades.
Seniors are: Dan Gove, Josh John, Cody Jones, Dustin Kimmes, Jacob Rachuy, Spencer Saccoman, Michael Stricker and Tim Zappa.
Juniors are: Noah Buggs, Brian Burr, Chris Erickson, Ben Gomes, Jesse Green, James Harper, Lukas Human, Alex Kane, Ryan King, John McQuade, Dominic Milne, Joe Rabaey, Alex Schorzman, Christian Weiland and Matthew Woolery.
Sophomores are: Zack Benning, Wes Evansen, Daryale Harris, Jake Kelly, Carter Maher, Dan Marquette, Brendan McCabe, Pierre Munoz, Matthew Powers, Andy Rachuy, Bryan Rachuy, Matt Reinisch, Austin Reuter, Brandon Sieh, Jake Spitzack and David Syverson.
Freshmen are: Cory Anderson, Jake Anderson, Garrett Arndt, Ben Begin, Matt Boe, Forrest Close, Morgan Dotson, Christian Flanders, Christian Flasch, Kyle King, Godfree Manly-Spain, Cole Osier, Dorren Sheegog, Max Sykes, Mike Tappella and Blake Woolard.
Hastings competed at an indoor meet in River Falls a few weeks ago, and the Raiders got a good look at athletes in a number of events.
Hastings was led at the meet in River Falls by Zack Benning, who won the 3,200 meter run in 10:13.98.
The boys put together a 4x800 relay that placed fifth in 8:52.93.
Freshman Matt Boe led the team in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 9.93. Andy Rachuy, a sophomore, was close behind with a time of 10.49.
In the 55-meter dash, Brian Burr, a junior, led Hastings with a 19th-place finish. He had a time of 7.17.
Joe Rabaey led the way in the 1,600, finishing eighth in 4:42.60. He is a junior.
The 4x200 relay placed 15th in 1:47.34.
Dan Marquette placed 24th in the 400, finishing in 59.87. He is a sophomore. Fellow sophomore David Syverson was 26th in 1:00.13.
Lukas Human led Hastings in the 800, finishing 23rd in 2:20.49. He is a junior. Austin Reuter, a sophomore, was 27th in 2:25.41.
Dustin Kimmes finished 11th in 25.13.
The 4x400 team placed 14th in 3:55.99.
Dominic Milne paced the Raiders in the shot put with a distance of 35-7.5. Kyle King took 23rd with a put of 35-4.5.
Wes Evansen placed 14th in the triple jump, traveling 37-6.75. Rabaey was 17th with a distance of 37-2.5.
In the long jump, Evansen led Hastings again, going 17 feet.
Brandon Sieh and Alex Kane paced the Raiders in the high jump. They eached cleared 5-2 and placed 18th.
Dan Gove placed sixth in the pole vault, clearing 12-0. Tim Zappa was 10th. He cleared 11-0.
