Randall James Thole, 50, faces five counts of felony criminal sexual conduct in the first degree and two felony counts of second degree assault after a series of events that started Aug. 6 and ended in the early morning hours of Aug. 7.

According to complaints filed by the Dakota County Attorney's office, the events started in the evening hours of Aug. 6, when Thole and a 14-year-old girl started drinking beer and doing shots in the bedroom of Thole's home. They were in the bedroom, the complaint states, because there were younger children in the home and the teen did not want them to see her drinking.

Thole allegedly turned on a pornographic movie, then made sexual advances toward the girl. She tried to move his hands away and told him "no," but he became forceful. He allegedly pinned the girl down and raped her. Afterward, according to the complaint, he "told her he was going to be in trouble for what he had done."

The same night, Thole apparently drove to the Lakeville apartment of a woman who had an order for protection against him. Another man, identified in the complaint by the initials S.E.L., heard the woman screaming "no Randy, no Randy." The man saw Thole punching the woman against a vehicle, so he pushed Thole to get him off of the woman.

Thole left briefly and the woman called 911. She and S.E.L. were entering the apartment building when Thole allegedly retuned, swinging a hunting knife with an eight- to 10-inch blade. He allegedly swung the blade at S.E.L. but missed, then turned on to the woman. S.E.L. saw Thole strike the woman in the stomach with the blade. According to the complaint he repeatedly threatened to kill the woman.

The two men struggled over the knife; S.E.L. was also stabbed in the struggle. He was able to shove Thole out of the apartment building, then he and the woman got into the residence.

The woman was transported to a hospital where she was reported in serious condition due to cuts to her shoulder, hand and abdomen, and a loss of blood. Lakeville officers received report of the attack around 1 a.m., Aug. 7.

It's not clear what time Thole returned home, but Farmington police officers responded to a medical crisis at the home shortly at 1:38 a.m. Thole had allegedly barricaded himself into his house, and Farmington police called the Dakota County Mutual Aid and Assistance Group to help get Thole out.

Thole was taken to the Dakota County Jail, where he was originally held on two assault charges and one for violation of an order for protection. He was formally charged with two counts of second degree assault following his first court appearance Aug. 9.

On Aug. 11, Farmington police investigator Brianna Dirks filed five additional charges of criminal sexual conduct against Thole for the rape of the 14-year-old girl. The rape was reported to Dirks at 3:50 p.m., Aug. 7, when she was contact by Burnsville Ridges hospital staff who were conducting a sexual assault examination on the teen.

According to Dirks' complaint, Thole and the girl are in a "significant relationship" and he was responsible for supervising the girl on the night of the assault.
