Police report preview - Oct. 6 to Oct. 12
A cell phone was reportedly stolen from an office safe at the Hastings Middle School.
A student's phone was taken away during class. The phone was put in an unlocked safe and it disappeared.
The phone was tracked by GPS to an address on Malcolm Avenue. The homeowner had a son at the middle school. When questioned he turned over the phone. He said he got the phone from a friend at the end of the school day.
The phone was returned to its rightful owner.
A runaway was reported at 11:06 p.m. in the 500 block of Fifth Street. At 12:10 a.m., the woman reported the juvenile returned home, then fled again.
The juvenile was cited for a curfew violation.
Officers later learned the boy was staying in a wooded area near Westview Drive and South Frontage Road. They found him there.
A blanket, jacket, fire pit, cigarette butts, pop bottles and a mattress were found in the area with the boy. The matter was referred to social services and the boy's probation officer.
A shoplifter was confronted and left a store in the 200 block of 33rd Street at 4:17 p.m.
A license plate and a description was given to officers.
Officers met with store managers, who said the man put a bottle of Worcestershire sauce in his pocket and left without paying.
The man paid for bananas and lettuce but not the Worcestershire sauce, valued at $3.77.
Officers responded to the thief's address. The matter is still under investigation.
