Hastings finished one point ahead of Park.

The Raiders were led on the 5.7K course by Rachel Peterson, who finished 16th overall in a time of 22 minutes and 31 seconds.

"She's looking real good right now," coach John Dewall said. "She ripped it up on that classic race. She's improving every meet."

Vic Zeyen, a middle schooler, was 53rd.

Valya Tipler, a new skier, was 59th.

Amelia Strauss finished 61st and Megan England was 62nd.

On the junior varsity side of things, Emily Klysen, Sara Lund, Haley Peterson and Amber Peterson all raced.

Boys

The Hastings boys were led by Zack Benning, who was 20th overall with a time of 18 minutes and 44 seconds.

"Considering he's a brand new skier, finishing 20th in the SEC, that's pretty big," Dewall said.

HHS senior Joe Rabaey was 37th overall in 20 minutes and 41 seconds.

James Harper had a nice race, coming in 43rd in 21:31.

Alex Kane was 46th in 21:40 and Forrest Close took 48th in 21:58.

Jack Caulkins finished 65th, and Dewall is really excited about what the new few years hold for him. He is just an eighth-grader.

"In the future, he's going to be a real top skier," Dewall said. "We're very impressed with him and his progress."

Also making big strides is Jake Rabaey, who was 68th. He is an eighth-grader, too.

"They're going to be our future leaders," Dewall said.

Garrett Tuin, a freshman, was 72nd. He is a new skier, too.

Sawyer Karas was 73rd. He is an eighth-grader as well.
