Open house planned for Highway 61
The 8.5-mile Highway 61 concrete overlay (resurfacing/rehabilitation) project in Denmark Township (north of Hastings to 70th Summit Street in St. Paul Park) will be the topic of an open house from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 23, at the River Oaks Golf Course, 11099 Highway 61, Cottage Grove.
Representatives of the Minnesota Department of Transportation will be present to discuss the project, including design, engineering aspects, and possible traffic impacts.
This project, which will go out for bids the middle of this month, is scheduled to begin in May, with completion by October.
The project will be done in four stages along the highway. Each stage will run about 30 days.
There will be impact on traffic throughout the project but the road will not be closed. Two lanes of traffic - one northbound, one southbound, will be maintained on the highway.
Right-turn lanes are being added to any public street and commercial access that does not already have them. This improves safety and adds capacity to the highway, according to project manager Diane Langenbach.
Plus, one median opening and one frontage road access along the highway is being closed as part of this project. Both are being done for safety reasons.
