"We got on them early and I think it kind of helped us to get on them early because Keith's a really good pitcher -- one of the top pitchers in the league," said Andrew Werner, who delivered a two-out, two-run hit in the first. "Getting out front early definitely helped morale of the team and got us going."

The Mudhens improved to 9-0 in the Classic Cannon Valley League and remained in first place.

Miesville scored a run off Meyers in the fifth and three runs off Robert Burr in the sixth. Werner's two-run homer off the scoreboard in left field highlighted the four-run eighth.

Chris Olean earned the victory, allowing two hits over seven innings. He didn't walk a batter and struck out eight. Olean struck out the side in both the fifth and sixth innings.

Olean also benefited from the early lead

"It lets you throw some pitches that maybe you wouldn't throw if you were afraid of a walk or whatever the case may be," he said. "It gives you a bit of a leash to do some things."

Olean also was efficient on the hot, humid afternoon. He threw just 82 pitches.

"Chris was as good as I've seen him this year today," Mudhens player/manager Garrett Retka said. "He had every pitch working after a while."

Luke Rasmussen pitched the final inning to seal the victory for Miesville (17-3 overall).

Cannon Falls (10-12 overall, 4-5 CCVL) didn't help itself by committing three errors.
