This week, Jill Moes, Ph.D, returned to Hastings, and her education and spiritual roots. On Monday, Nov. 15, she began her new position as principal of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School.

She succeeds Rita Humbert as principal of the Catholic School here in Hastings. The Seton School principal position became vacant when Humbert left in early September to become principal at Eastside Elementary School in River Falls, Wis. She had been at Seton for 11 years.

"SEAS has always been a special place for me," said Moes. "My grandmother Alice O'Connor was a third-grade teacher at SEAS and my parents Buster and Helen Schneider also graduated from SEAS."

Moes also graduated from Seton School.

"I still have my pompoms from my cheerleading experience for the Patriot football team," she said.

After high school, Moes attended the College of St. Catherine for two years and then transferred the University of Minnesota. She has a bachelor's degree in psychology. She has a master's degree in education in school psychology from the University of Wisconsin, Stout. She was employed in the Hastings school district for six years as a school psychologist. She also attended the University of St. Mary's and earned her licensure as an elementary and secondary principal.

Following her years in Hastings, Moes was the assistant principal at Woodbury Junior and Woodbury High schools for six years. She also returned to college and received her Ph.D. in educational administration. She then was hired as principal at Immaculate Conception Catholic School in Columbia Heights. That was her most recent position until this week.

"I have a passion for Catholic education but the challenge of continually encouraging our young people to be set part before God is no small task," said Moes. A healthy and solid spiritual education plays a vital role in the nurturing and nourishing of our children's health in spirit, soul and body. We will build these lasting relationships together as a faith community, to represent our children as spiritual leaders and representatives of our faith."

Former Hastings School District Superintendent Ken LaCroix chaired the search committee for the new principal. Other members of the committee were Anita Endres, Leon Endres, Kathy Gleich, Matt Maher, Ruth Riles, Alli Steiner, Jill Skaife, Hilary Lamusga, Pat Regan, Dick Wise, The Rev. Allan Eilen and parish administrator Mark Dittman.
