New dance studio opens in Hastings
Rain Academy of Dance recently opened its doors in Hastings. Beginning on Monday, Aug. 13, the studio offered preparatory classes to those hoping to audition for programs that required it, with the actual auditions taking place later in the week. More auditions will be held in September.
Katie Vortherms, a Hastings graduate and experienced dancer, is one of the academy's three owners. She, along with three other instructors, will offer lessons in varying levels and styles. Vortherms said that the business exists to provide another option for dance in Hastings.
Fellow owners are Kristan Woog and Paul Woog, who also live in Hastings.
The studio features two 1,000 square foot rooms with Adagio dance floors plus a lobby and changing area. Television screens streaming live video of the rooms are set up in the lobby so that parents can observe their children during lessons. A homework space and kids area are also available.
The academy offers classes in four different categories: recreational, competition, elite competition and solo/duet plus ballroom and yoga sessions. Drop-in classes and clinics featuring guest specialists will be offered throughout the year. There are programs for participants ranging in age from 2years old to adult, and Vortherms said that there is a place for individuals of all commitment levels and competitiveness.
The public will be given the chance to tour the space during an open house on Aug. 29 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Classes are set to begin on Sept. 10.
