National Night Out is Aug. 3
National Night Out will again be celebrated in Hastings.
This year's celebration is planned for Tuesday, Aug. 3.
The event aims to get Hastings residents out of their houses and into the streets to meet their neighbors and law enforcement officials from the city.
Tim Connell from the Hastings Police Department is helping to organize this year's event.
By neighbors getting to know one another, they'll have a better handle on who belongs in their neighborhood, and who doesn't.
"Anonymity fuels crimes," Connell said.
Connell and a number of members of the Hastings Police Department and the Hastings Fire Department will be out traveling from each neighborhood's party. There are approximately 30 neighborhoods in the city that have planned get-togethers.
It is too late to add neighborhoods to the list of places that law enforcement officials will stop, but Connell urged people who missed out this year to get in touch with him for 2011. He can be reached by calling 651-480-2339.
