Mudhens beat Aces, Bears
Andrew Werner's big game propelled Miesville to a 4-3 victory Saturday over rival Red Wing. The Mudhens starter allowed three runs in six innings, earning the win on his RBI single in the seventh inning.
Eric Olson, a recent graduate of the University of St. Thomas, stranded six runners in the final three innings to earn the high-pressure save.
While it snaps a two-game losing streak for Miesville, manager Chris Olean downplayed its significance.
"Until the end in playoffs, they're all just league games," he said.
The Mudhens improve to 22-7 overall and 7-4 in the Classic Cannon Valley League.
Red Wing's Andy Gibart sailed through the first six innings, but broke down in the seventh. Miesville scored three runs on four hits to take the lead. A spectacular diving catch by left fielder Dave Jenson limited the damage, though it still proved enough for the win.
Red Wing falls to 20-8 and 7-4.
Vs Cannon Falls
Miesville's Chris Olean survived a rough first inning to toss a complete game in Sunday's 8-4 victory over the Bears.
Cannon Falls loaded the bases with nobody out in the first inning, but the Mudhens hurler limited the damage to one run and sailed through the rest of the way.
He finished with 10 strikeouts and just one walk.
Miesville scored three runs in the second and fourth innings to take a commanding lead. Matt Vanderbosch, who finished 3-for-5, added solo homers in the seventh and ninth innings for the Mudhens.
Nate Otto added three hits, while driving in two and stealing three bases.
Aaron Stein suffered the loss for the Bears.
He allowed six runs on seven hits in four innings. Robert Burr and Meyers worked the final five innings.
Taylor Pagel finished 2-for-3 with a solo homer in the seventh.
"We hit the ball well; we just didn't capitalize on our opportunities," Meyers said.

Miesville, which improved to 23-7 and 8-4, plays host today (Thursday) to Pine Island.
