A 29-year-old Redby woman has been missing since Saturday, her mother said Wednesday.

Charlotte Clark said her daughter, Barbara Crystal (King) Ortiz, walked away from her home, half a mile west of Redby in the McBride area, to hitchhike to Bemidji Saturday on County Road 15. She was last seen near County Road 32 East.

"She's a vulnerable adult," Clark said. "She's in serious need of medication and she needs to be hospitalized. ... She has mental health issues. At times she does not know who she is."

Ortiz gave birth to a baby Dec. 28. The baby, Cassandra Marie, is with her husband, Elijo Ortiz, Clark said. "We're helping with the baby," she said.

The baby was born by cesarean section and Ortiz has no pain medication, Clark said.

"She has a mental condition," Clark said. "She had to get off medication while pregnant. She's been off that medication for nine months now."

Clark distributed fliers in the community and filed a missing person report with the Red Lake Police Department. Anyone with any information should call the Beltrami County Sheriff's Department at 751-9111, the Red Lake Police Department at 218-679-3313 or the family at 368-7033.

Ortiz is an American Indian woman with shoulder-length dark hair who wears contact lenses. She was last seen wearing a thin black sweater and brown sweat pants with brown-and-orange Adidas sneakers and was carrying a blue, orange and yellow back-pack.
