In the matter of the petitions for the enlargement and increase in number of managers of the South Washington Watershed District and enlargement of the Valley Branch Watershed District pursuant to Minn. Statutes Sections 103D.261 and 103D.305.

Whereas, the subject petitions dated March 13, 2009 have been filed with the Board of Water and Soil Resources (Board) and the watershed districts, pursuant to Minn. Statutes Sections 103D.261 and 103D.305.

Now therefore, the Board hereby issues the following:

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a public hearing on the petitions will be held on Wednesday, April 22, 2009, beginning at 7:00 PM in conference rooms 147 and 148 at the Washington County Service Center-Cottage Grove, located at 13000 Ravine Parkway South, Cottage Grove, Minnesota.

The purpose of the hearing is to receive public comments on the petitions. At the hearing, all interested persons will be given opportunity to submit pertinent information.

The proposed enlargements encompass approximately 45.4 square miles of land in the Cities of Afton, Cottage Grove and Hastings, and the Town of Denmark. All affected lands are in Washington County in the Lower St. Croix Watershed Management Organization which has begun the dissolution process.

The proposed increase in number of managers of the South Washington Watershed District is from the current five managers to seven managers.

Major purposes of the watershed districts are to manage water quantity, protect and improve water quality, sustain the surface water-ground water interface, and manage wetlands.

The Board must review the petitions for conformance with state law and rule.

Copies of the petitions are available for inspection during normal business hours at the Board's office at the address listed above.
