Miesville evacuated ... for an hour
A broken gas line in Miesville forced the evacuation of the city's residents from their homes and businesses last Friday, July 24. The line was broken at about 10 a.m. during the storm in the area, according to Dakota County Chief Deputy Dave Bellows.
"It was a fairly intensive storm," he said.
The wind's force blew over a silo in the area. When the silo fell, it struck the gas line. Gas began filling the air.
The decision was made, as the city waited for repair work, to evacuate the city's residents - to the fire hall on 240th Street (Highway 61), next to Jack Ruhr Field. The wait to return home and to businesses was about an hour.
Minnesota state Patrol assisted Dakota County Sheriff deputies with traffic rerouting during the morning.
