Megachurch in Woodbury moves forward
A planned 1,500-seat-capacity church in east Woodbury is headed for City Council action.
Lino Lakes-based Eagle Brook Church plans a satellite campus at the northeast corner of Settlers Ridge Parkway and Brookview Road.
The first construction phase, to be complete by fall 2012, includes worship space for 1,500 people. A second phase could double the worship capacity to 3,000, but would require additional review.
Woodbury Planning Commission members voted 7-0 May 17 to recommend the first construction phase.
Neighboring residents raised concerns about the church's impact on traffic at Settlers Ridge Parkway and Brookview Road and at the intersection of Settlers Ridge Parkway and Hudson Road.
A city traffic study concluded no major road changes were needed, though some new turn lanes are proposed in the area. City officials said they would monitor traffic if the church opens and address any significant traffic delays.
Council members could vote on the project May 26.
