Marching band misses top spot by narrowest of margins

The Hastings Raiders Marching Band took second place at Irondale on Saturday, Sept. 28. The group missed the first place spot, won by the Andover Marching Band, by only a tenth of a point.

Hastings competed against seven other bands, the largest competition it has had to date. By taking second place, the band scored higher than Coon Rapids, Minnetonka, Champlin Park, Winona Cotter, Anoka and Baldwin-Woodville, Wis. The Raiders Marching band also won the caption of “Outstanding Drum Major.” The drum major is Ben Ventry. The Raiders travel to Sioux Falls, S.D., this weekend for the Festival of Bands competition on Oct. 5. There, it will perform in the preliminary competition, hoping to be one of the top 10 bands and make it to finals. There are 20 bands in the competition. The final competition is the Minnesota state finals held at the Mall of America Field Oct. 12. Tickets are available at http://youthinmusic.com.
