Man arrested for huffing in bathroom of Hastings store; he had been released from jail two hours earlier

Officers responded on the report of a person huffing fumes in the bathroom of a business in the 1700 block of Frontage Road.

The man had apparently passed out.

Officers responded to the bathroom and saw a pair of feet under the door of the handicap stall. Officers attempted to make contact with the man and eventually were able to do so.

"What do you want?" the man asked officers. "I did nothing wrong."

Officers threatened to kick the door in, and finally the man opened the door. He had a can of dust remover in one hand and had apparently fallen and hit his head.

Managers from the store came into the bathroom and told officers they have had similar problems with the man and they had prevented him from entering the store any longer.

Arrested for trespassing was a 39-year-old St. Paul man.

The man had been in the Dakota County Jail for theft and trespassing at another business. He was released two hours prior to this incident in Hastings. He was waiting for a ride, he said.
