Mailbox fire considered to be arson

A mailbox fire at Westview Center is being treated as arson, according to the Hastings Fire Department.

The box, a U.S. Postal Service drive-up mail collection box located in the parking lot, had a fire lit inside it sometime Wednesday night or Thursday, July 3 or 4, said Fire and EMS Director Mike Schutt. It was discovered Friday when a postal carrier attempted to collect the mail. The fire was contained within the box, and all the contents were burned.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Hastings Police Department.
