Lyle K. Egland, age 80, of Hastings, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at the Regina Medical Center.
Lyle was born Sept. 2, 1929, in Albert Lea to Orrin and Thelma (Gilje) Egland, and was raised by his grandparents, Christian "Christ" and Karina Gilje, growing up near Cannon Falls. He was a 1947 graduate of Northfield High School, and attended electrician school. Lyle married Helen Thorson on August 7, 1954, in Northfield, and was employed by Ford Motor Co. for 38 years, retiring in 1991.
Lyle was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; brother, David Egland, and grandson, Eric Rego.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Helen (Thorson) Egland; children, Terrance "Terry" (Ann) Egland of Hughesville, Md., Candace (fiancé Troskey) Gergen of Woodbury, Lorene "Lori" "Renie" Egland of Hastings, Sonia (Mark) Rego of Hastings, Lowell "Ole" Egland of Hastings, Sandra (David) Hanson of Savage, and Heather (Sean) Morrison of Burnsville; 14 grandchildren, Joshua, James, and Jon Gergen, Crystal and Chad Rego, Ian, Andrew "Leif", and Christopher "Ryan" Egland, Benjamin and Joseph Hanson, Abby Pederson, Brennan and Mia Morrison, Heaven Lacy; three great-grandchildren, Joshua "Mickey", Steffan, and Jonah Gergen.
The funeral service, officiated by Rev. Doug Duin, was held Nov. 18, 2009 at Our Saviour's Ev. Lutheran Church, Hastings, followed by burial, with full military honors provided by Hastings VFW Lyle Russell Post 1210, at Lakeside Cemetery. The pallbearers were Joshua Gergen, James Gergen, Ian Egland, Andrew "Leif" Egland, Christopher "Ryan" Egland, Benjamin Hanson, Joseph Hanson, and Brennan Morrison.
