Local Jam is at Vets Park Friday night
They started small, but have already outgrown three venues, and come Friday, the show will move outdoors when the Local Jam hits Veterans Athletic Complex.
Local Jams are concerts put on by the Youth Planning Council that feature local bands made up of young people. There's been a couple at 2nd Street Coffee Shop and other locations around Hastings, but this is the first one to be held outside.
The concert will feature six acts and will go from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday, June 19, at Veteran's Athletic Complex, 2500 Millard Ave. The cost of entry is $5, and includes a $2 coupon for the concession stand.
The money raised by the event will go toward a Youth Planning Council scholarship, which is awarded to students who exhibit a high level of community involvement.
The most notable name taking the stage Friday night is Patrick Sieben, a 2007 graduate of Hastings High School who was selected from a national talent search to play in the band Select Three.
Also performing are Mamma Doom, Doorstotomorrow, Chase Farber, Last Place Heroes and Matt Bruch-Anderson with Dylan Myers.
While young people have been the majority group attending the Local Jams, Youth First Director Ann Grotjohn said she hopes to see more adults take an interest in the concerts. People who attend are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.
The concert will be cancelled in case of rain.
