Letters to the editor: QComp is insulting to teachers
To the editor,
I have to say that I am very disappointed in Mr. Greil's ramblings about teacher pay and compensation.
QComp is insulting to the entire teaching profession. I am a teacher, and I do the best job I can every single day, often working two to three hours overtime each day and spending my money on materials.
The premise that teachers are not working as hard as they can and bonuses will make them work harder is just false. I have been going to teacher's meetings and conferences for more than 20 years, and I have yet to hear teachers discuss merit pay ... teachers discuss lower class size, funding, more classroom materials, teaching ideas, technology, input on district curriculum, getting students school supplies, books, or coats, and working with parents - not performance pay. Schools are not competitive Fortune 500 Companies; they are cooperative, supportive learning environments.
You should be very proud of your Hastings teachers and your schools.
