Letter: In support of Mike Obermueller
To the editor,
Dakota County’s favorite comedian is at it again. This time, Congressman John Kline took to the airwaves over the weekend to deliver the Republican Party response to the President’s weekly radio message.
Kline used this opportunity to toss out partisan one-liners and encourage the President to focus on the economy and create “a better America.” Perhaps Kline should take a break from watching Fox News long enough to review the facts.
Since President Obama has taken office, the Dow Jones Industrials Average has hit record highs and risen more than 8,000 points, the S&P 500 is up by over 1,000, and the NASDAQ has grown by 3,600 points.
Unemployment is down to pre-Bush Recession levels, and more than 288,000 private sector jobs were added last month alone.
Since Kline has been around Washington a while, he might recall how our last Republican president performed on the economy. During the tenure of President George W. Bush, the Dow fell by 25 percent, S&P 500 by 40 percent and the NASDAQ index dropped by 48 percent. In 2008 alone, more than 2.6 million jobs were lost nationally, the worst such loss since 1945.
John Kline can talk a good game in Washington on behalf of his Tea Party friends, but the facts don’t back up his empty rhetoric. It’s time to De-Kline our district and elect Democrat Mike Obermueller to Congress this November.
