Letter: Come audition for Annie!

Email

To the editor,

Certain experiences are game changers. Your life was going in one direction; suddenly it is going in another. Sometimes these experiences are thrust upon us and we get no choice. Other times, we have an opportunity presented to us that we should not let slip by. When I auditioned for my first Black Dirt Theater show, "Oklahoma!" two years ago, I was struggling to make connections in a community where everyone seemed to know each other except for me. I moved here and launched into my job, but didn't make a lot of friends and I felt like I was the only person in town who was not related to anyone. Two years later, I not only have friends, but I have a family. The Black Dirt family. Getting to perform was fun, but the WAY that Black Dirt Theater creates their shows is what makes the difference. They seek to use productions to connect people to each other and to what makes our community special. They seek to be as fair as possible and to include as many people as they can. They develop different levels of involvement so that even if you can only commit to a few hours a week, you can still be a part of something special. And trust me, they are willing to work with even the craziest schedules! So, what are you waiting for? Come audition for Annie! Children 14 and under should come on May 11 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Anyone 15 and older may come either May 17 from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. or May 18 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Just bring 30 seconds of your favorite song and a positive attitude to the middle school auditorium and embrace the opportunity to be a part of something amazing!! For more information, please go to www.blackdirttheater.com . Thank you!
