LeDuc plays host to Civil War weekend

"1863: The Price of Victory" is the theme of Civil War Weekend at the LeDuc Historic Estate, 1629 Vermillion St. from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 7 and 8 p.m. Admission prices run from $5 to $8 (free for members of Dakota County Historical Society and military personnel and their immediate families.) Visitors will have an opportunity to go back in history to the events of 1863 by observing the following:

Saturday, Sept. 7:

10 a.m., Flag Raising by 3rd Minnesota Infantry.

10:30 a.m., Children's games with the Living History Society.

10:45 a.m., Pay call for the First Minnesota.

11 a.m., First Minnesota firing demonstration.

11:30 a.m., Drills with 3rd Minnesota Infantry, participation encouraged.

11:45 a.m., Firing demonstration with the Missouri Irregulars.

Noon, Rod VanVleet discusses Rendezvous with Glory, speakers' tent.

12:15 p.m., Medical demonstration by 3rd Minnesota Infantry.

1p.m., Linda Bryant, "The American Missionary Association and Its

Response to the Contraband Crisis," speakers' tent.

1:30 p.m., Drills with 3rd Minnesota Infantry.

1:45 p.m., Firing demonstration with the Missouri Irregulars

2 p.m., Wayne Jorgenson "Gettysburg," speakers' tent.

2:30 p.m., Mayor Paul Hicks, reading of Gettysburg Address, speakers' tent.

2:30 p.m., Fashion show with the Historical Re-enactment Society, speakers' tent.

3p.m., Civil War wedding on the front veranda, Historical Re-enactment

Society.

3:30 p.m., First Minnesota firing demonstration.

3:45 p.m., Rich Williams, "Gettysburg of the West: The fall of Vicksburg," speakers' tent.

4p.m., Century Brass Band.

4:30 p.m., Medical demonstration by the 3rd Minnesota Infantry.

4:45 p.m., Closing ceremony by 3rd Minnesota Infantry.

1:30 p.m., Drills with 3rd Minnesota Infantry.

2:15 p.m., The New Pearl Buttons, music of the Civil War, speakers' tent.

3 p.m., "Mourning: the Loss of Loved Ones," - Betsy Connolly, parlor.

3:30 p.m., First MN Firing Demonstration

3:45 p.m., Rich Williams, "The Raid of Lawrence, KS: Border Warfare," speakers' tent.

4:30 p.m., Tea in the Garden with the Historical Re-enactment Society.

* Stop by Spencer Johnson's camp to see what's cooking.

* Ongoing demos in kitchen during tour by Tara Harl and JoAnn Bergman

* Visit Longley's Cabinet of Curiosities to view the strange and scientific.

* Venture into the carriage barn to see a Civil War gun display and the

Rue-Mayer family Civil War Articats Museum.

* Be sure to visit Mrs. Bryan, the Temperance Lady.

* View painting in the field with David Geister.

* Visit the historic photography tent.

* Visit authors Rod VanVleet and Nancy Bestul as they sign and sell

Civil War books near the check-in.
