Lavern V. Ovsak, 89

Lavern V. Ovsak, age 89, of Hastings, died Dec. 31, at the Augustana Health Care Center in Hastings.

Lavern was born Dec. 27, 1924, in River Falls, Wis., to Michael and Cecelia (Yanish) Ovsak. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and married June (Iverson) Flom on June 5, 1971, at Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Hastings. Lavern worked at HD Hudson from April 1, 1965 until April 4, 1990, when he retired. He loved his yard work, playing solitaire and euchre, being organized, and serving as handyman for his whole family.

He was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Veronica (Liffering) Ovsak; his parents; father-in-law; three sisters; daughter Ruth Schmiedlin; and grandson Newlin Boucher.

Lavern is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, June - who he will still be walking hand in hand with in spirit; children Jeannine Ovsak of Marshfield, Wis., Marian Kittel of Hugo, Minn., Dave (Deb) Ovsak of River Falls, Wis., Ellen (Jim) DeWolf of River Falls, Wis., Lou Ann Boucher of Star Prairie, Wis., Dan Ovsak of River Falls, Wis.; stepchildren Joe Flom of Cannon Falls, Joan (Marc) Huebsch, Pam (Harley) Rabe, Deb (Chuck) Blatz and Cindy (Jeff) Kummer, all of Hastings; also 26 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren; brother Lawrence Ovsak of Hastings; sisters Delores Briles of Hudson, Wis.; and Rosemary Ocel of Blaine, Minn.

The funeral service, officiated by Rev. Doug Duin will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 3, at Our Saviours Ev. Lutheran Church, 400 West Ninth St., Hastings. Visitation will be held at church one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Lakeside Cemetery, Hastings.

Pallbearers are David Chapin, Jeremy Johnson, Jeff Kummer, Mark Bost, Jason Ovsak and Joshua Ovsak.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
