Laura Zabel is named Gardner Outstanding Educator
Hastings High School math teacher Laura Zabel has been named the University of Minnesota 2012 William E. Gardner PreK-12 Outstanding Educator.
Zabel is a graduate of the University of Minnesota and the University of Minnesota Band Program. She continues to be an active supporter of the University of Minnesota and earned one of the highest honors for an alumnus awarded each year. The William E. Gardner PreK-12 Outstanding Educator Award recognizes a graduate of the College of Education and Human Development who has demonstrated excellence in the field of PreK-12 school-based education. Nominees must be (or have been) in teaching, counseling, or other non-administrative roles at the pre-kindergarten, elementary, middle or high school level. Criteria for selection are: demonstrated knowledge and use of research-based best practices with students, families, and fellow educators; demonstrated willingness to share skills, knowledge, expertise, and evidence of professional contributions designed to enhance educational practices at any pre-kindergarten through grade 12 level; demonstrated collaborative leadership in education in or beyond the district of employment; and demonstrated experience and success working with diverse cultures.
