Karbo places in tie for 57th at state golf meet

The lone state meet qualifier from the Hastings High School girls golf team, Izzy Karbo, placed in a tie for 57th at her first state meet.

Karbo shot a 90 on her first day of play at Bunker Hills Golf Course in Coon Rapids. On her second day, she had a 90, too.

Over her first nine holes of play on Wednesday, Karbo had a 42. On the back nine she had a 48.

A total of 88 girls made up the field.

The individual state title was captured by Kenzie Neisen of New Prague, who had a 135. The team meet was won by Wayzata. Two Suburban East Conference schools competed at the state meet. Cretin-Derham Hall was seventh and Mounds View was eighth.

Karbo is a junior.

He was previously general manager of the Farmington Independent and Rosemount Town Pages from 2000 to 2007. He worked at the Hastings Star Gazette from 1996 to 2000 as a photographer and reporter. He also worked as a photographer and writer at the Pope County Tribune in Glenwood.
