Karbo, Hoffman lead girls in section golf tourney
Freshman Sadie Karbo wrapped up her golf season showing considerable improvement over last year. She and the Hastings Raiders girls golf team competed at the section tournament June 3 and June 4.
The first day of sections was held at Phalen Golf Course in St. Paul. Karbo shot a 90 and Hannah Hoffman shot a 95. Josie Stepan finished the day with 102, Ellen Bergschneider shot a 104, Lexie Harp shot 109 and Maddie Bauer shot 113.
On the second day, the girls played a course that was 400 yards longer than Phalen. Karbo shot 90, her personal best. It was also 18 strokes better than last year, when she shot a 108 at the same course, Bunker Hills Golf Course in Coon Rapids. Karbo had a two-day score of 180.
Joining Karbo in the second day of the tournament was junior Hannah Hoffman. Hoffman shot a 100 on her second day at Bunker Hills, giving her a two-day total of 195.
"Both girls played really well on a course that played like a collegiate course with the tough pin placement and long yardage," head coach Becky Hartung said.
The girls had three other matches just prior to the section tournament. On Monday, May 23, they played at Mississippi Dunes. Harp and Karbo led the day, each scoring 48. Bergschneider shot a 49, Stepan shot a 55, and Masha Wagner shot a 69. They had a team total of 200, which put the Raiders in ninth place.
On May 25 they played at the Hastings Country Club. Karbo shot a 44, Bergschneider shot 48, Klimek shot 49, Hoffman shot 51, Caitlyn Judge shot 54 and Stepan shot 56. The team totaled 196 and placed sixth.
The Raiders earned another sixth-place finish at the Suburban East Conference tournament at Oak Glen May 27. Bergschneider shot a 95, Karbo shot 97, Harp shot 102, Klimek shot 105, Hoffman shot 110 and Stepan shot 113. They had a team score of 399.
